Yes, There is Hope

One of the reasons emotional and verbal abuse so dangerous is because the damage is not visible to the eye, may be ignored and even denied until the damage is so deep that it has affected every area of life and because it literally rewires the brain.

The answer for the healing from this type of abuse is found in Scripture – shocking, huh? We are told repeatedly in God’s Word to renew our minds. Most of life’s battles begin in the mind so a mind that has been wired by years of verbal and emotional abuse is literally broken. And, emotions follow thinking. Thinking happens in the mind. A mind that has been broken by the wiring of verbal and emotional abuse needs healing. And when the mind is healing so are the emotions.

And that healing comes through renewing the mind…

We think based on what we hear. You and I must choose what we hear – and when we hear things that we have no control over we must RENEW – how? By on purpose hearing TRUTH. The ultimate source of truth is God’s Word. LISTEN to it. I love to sleep with Scripture playing softly in my room – you can find this on Youtube or other apps on your phone or TV.

And here I go again hopping on my box – MEMORIZE it. We can’t always be sitting and reading or listening to Scripture. But if we intentionally memorize it; it’s always there! Trust me. When the thoughts that your brain has been wired to think creep in, and you have Scripture to counter those thoughts, you are winning! Your mind is healing. Your ability to think truth instead of lies grows!

I know that I risk angering some with this statement, but much of what we are medicated for today: anxiety, stress, depression… are the result of minds that need to be renewed!
