Beautiful Thoughts to Consider
This past weekend, I attended the memorial service of a young wife and mother of three. It was there that I heard these words sung for the first time –
It is not death to die To leave this weary road
And join the saints who dwell on High Who’ve found their home with God
It is not death to close The eyes long dimmed by tears
And wake in joy before Your throne Delivered from our fears
Oh Jesus, conquering the grave
Your precious blood has power to save
Those who trust in You will in Your mercy find
That it is not death to die.
It is not death to fling Aside the earthly dust
And rise with strong and noble wing To live among the just
It is not death to hear The key unlock the door
That sets us free from mortal years To praise You evermore
Oh Jesus, conquering the grave
Your precious blood has power to save
Those who trust in You will in Your mercy find
It is not death to die.
The lyrics were written in the 1800’s and recently put into a song, and for most of this past week, the song has been on repeat in my head. Also, during this week, a young man who is dear to our family lost his mother, a friend of mine passed away, and I held the hand of another friend who, unless God chooses to perform what we would call a miracle on this earth, will take her last breath here very soon as well. Weeks like this are difficult, and yet, we have such hope.
What I want you to consider with me this evening is this: Those of us who have acknowledged our need for a Savior and have claimed His blood as payment for our sin, we have received eternal life. Life that never ends. The words of this poem/song put that into a beautiful perspective for us.
Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Before we knew Christ we faced eternal death. Once we gave our lives to Him, we received eternal life. Read the words above again and let the message overwhelm your throughts and emotions like they have mine this past week.
This is why you and I can rejoice evermore… our HOPE is real. It is not death to die.
