Can You Imagine?

“Grandmommy… Can You?”

We were enjoying a fun lunch together when my grandgirl looked at me and said, “Can you imagine living your whole life thinking that you could lose your salvation?” She’s 14 and often says things that make us laugh, but in this moment, I knew she was serious. I answered her with something like, “No, I can’t. But if that were true, none of us would be saved, because none of us could live such a perfect life to keep our salvation!” At this point, my grandboy, who is also 14, piped up and said, “We didn’t earn our salvation, so how could we ‘un-earn’ it?” The conversation continued along these lines for a few minutes, and to be honest, I was one proud Grandmommy – that these two young teens were able to not only express their thoughts, but they were able to think through a belief system that not only is un-Biblical, but that doesn’t make logical sense.

Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”

According to Scripture, salvation is a gift of grace – undeserved by any of us. We don’t do anything to earn it, and the Bible says that no one and no thing can pluck us out of our Father’s hand! Those who believe that we can lose our salvation don’t seem to be considering a few things.

One is that the holiness, perfection of Almighty God is so beyond our reach, that we have no access to the Father without the blood of Jesus covering our sins! Once we’ve accepted that gift, it is our love for this Saviour Who gave His life for us that inspires us to live obediently to His Word and will. But, we fail. We continually fall short – and it is the security of that gift of God that holds us firm in the Father’s hand. There is nothing we can do to earn more security and there is nothing we can do to lose that salvation. Period. As my grandboy said, “We didn’t earn it, so we can’t ‘un-earn’ it!’

I know this is a short article – you’re welcome. 🙂 Often, I drag on and on. But this truth was stated so simply by these children that I had to share. Think about it! “And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.” John 10:28.

On another note: I am so thankful that the ministries of The Forgotten Woman / Tranquility are growing – simply because God continues to bring who He wants into the building, or in my message box, or on my phone! These include: several Bible studies per week, grief counseling and classes, personal counseling, Ladies’ Nights, a website and ministry for abused women, the blog, and more. I’ve been overwhelmed with not only gratitude this week but truly, awe, in what He is doing. I just want Him to use my life. That being said, the number of those being ministered to is increasing, but the financial support remains a day-by-day question. Would you consider participating? We only need $2000 a month to cover our overhead and maintain the ministries we are currently doing. That is a small amount when we look at the lives God is changing, but it is a large amount for me. Anyway, thank you to those who have faithfully supported – we are still here because of you!
