*I don’t think God really cares about things like that!
Do you pray about the daily things? The schedule, the plan. How about the necessary funds for simple things like meals or gasoline? Do you pray for wisdom before meeting with a friend, or for the Lord to help you guard your expressions when your face declares what’s within?
When God says “In everything give thanks!” it seems to me that He is telling us that He is involved in EVERY THING~ so logic tells me that I really should be talking to Him about absolutely every thing. And the truth is, when I put myself into that mindset of “praying without ceasing,” I’ve already set myself up to see where He is working.
Just this morning I had a simple experience that reminded me to give thanks in everything; but it also reminded me to talk to Him about everything. Early this past week I had an engine light come on – you know the light on the dash that signals that you’re about to spend money you don’t have to repair something you were not expecting to go wrong. I whispered a short prayer when I saw it and went about the business that I had to accomplish within the next few hours. Then I showed the light to my son who told me that the codes would have to be read with a computer. A few hours later I made a phone call to another son and then headed to Advance Auto where a young gentleman read the code for me. He told me that the gas cap had not been put back on after I had gotten gas on Monday night – but that I would have to find someone with the right equipment to reset the computer and get my AWD working again as it should. As I thanked him, he told me that ‘sometimes’ these things reset themselves and I would know within a few hours of driving.
Well, I asked the Lord very quickly to please just reset the thing – I really cannot pay someone to hook something up to reset things in the car. Four days later, I was driving and begging God to please step in. I was sure at this point that I was going to have to bite the bullet and pay someone to reset things. Everytime I drove I could feel that my AWD was not operating properly. Well, yesterday was a day filled with a lot of physical work and by the end of the day I couldn’t walk without great pain and I just felt defeated. Guess what that meant? It meant a long soak in my hot tub (a gift from my children if you didn’t know) and many tears and prayers while I thanked the Lord for the beautiful moon and stars and the reflected light all around.
By the end of the evening, I was spent – physically, emotionally and I guess you would say that I felt spiritually exhausted. As I wearily crawled into bed and my sweet daughter brought me tea; I simply prayed,
“Lord, You know all, You know what lies ahead this week. You know my needs and I’ve got nothing left!” This morning, I had to drive into town and I was still feeling like I was dragging my legs behind me – and I turned on my car to find that all of the check engine lights were OFF! My car drove better than it has in the past week and I literally had tears running down my cheeks as I prayed a prayer of thanksgiving. Give God credit for this? You better believe it! Continue to take the daily “things” to Him in prayer? You better believe it!
The bottom line is that He tells us to PRAY WITHOUT CEASING. He tells us to GIVE THANKS IN EVERYTHING. He wants us to walk so closely with Him that we share the weights that easily beset us that really are nothing to Him. He WANTS to walk with us in this way – and He is always, always listening. That’s pretty incredible, don’t you think? So, this morning as I drove back home, my prayer wasn’t flowery or full of theological words. It was simple and to the point… “Father, the day and week that lies ahead are yours! Thank you for going before me. Thank you for caring about the details of my life. Thank you that you have shown me over and over again that even in the things that seem to be “not God things” You are there!” Yes, let’s pray about THAT!
