A Trip to Eleuthera

Daily writing prompt
Share a story about the furthest you’ve ever traveled from home.

The tiny plane that carried us over the ocean to the island of Eleuthera was the most frightening part of this trip but the small children living in what looked like cardboard boxes was the most heartbreaking.

I was just a teenager when I went on this trip – walking around the island every day for a couple of weeks telling the people there that Jesus loves them and that there is joy found in a relationship with Him. I’ve never seen such beauty as the clear water on the beaches; and I don’t believe I’ve ever heard such sincere, joyful singing as I heard in the services we held each night for the believers on the island. They sang BIG, with joy and with intense belief that what they were singing about gave them their very life!

40 years later, I look back on this trip as exhausting, eye-opening. heart- growing and of course; memorable. I hope and pray that several of the small children that I held in my arms, told about Jesus and prayed with is loving and serving Him today.
