Tranquility

What? Why? and How?

Joy? What is this Tranquility place I see you posting on social media about?” Is this your place? What is it? What do you do? When did you establish this? These are questions that I find myself answering repeatedly lately – and to be honest; I sometimes feel that I bore people with my details, my passions and quite frankly the needs of this business/ministry.

Yes, when I opened it 7 years ago, I did so as an extension of my home business: looking for a way to better combine it with my passion for women’s ministry. What I learned very quickly is that I am much better equipped to serve in ministry than I am to build a financially prosperous business. That’s ok – the business side of what I do has enabled me to keep the doors open for the ministry side for these past 7 years. It has not, however: allowed me to do so comfortably or completely.

What does that mean? That means that I have sometimes over the years had to dip into my personal income to pay the rent. I have sometimes had to go door to door selling gift certificates to pay the rent. I have sometimes had to hold special events to pay the rent. And these truths have forced me to repeatedly over the years evaluate my heart, my desires and the “why” behind this place.

So, what do we do? The business side offers healthy drink options – and a place for other small business owners to share the products they are passionate about. This, in fact – is part of the ministry side as well. We currently have an aesthetician who has her business inside of Tranquility and we are prayerful that she will be able to build her successful business within our walls. We hold events and offer our space for others to “work” without paying for the use of the space. Not good business? I know. But when I see other women working hard to contribute to their families – well; I want to help them.

Ministry side: we offer weekly “Ladies’ Nights” where ladies come in and for $20 they receive hair washing with head massage, foot washing with foot massage, a cleansing facial and a tea, smoothie or coffee of their choice. The $20 covers our cost of products used. Every lady who has been a part of this ministry over the past 7 years has done so on a voluntary basis and we are so grateful for those who share in this work! We also hosts special evenings for single mothers, teen moms, and other support types of groups.

We offer Bible studies on a regular basis: currently one on Tuesday and one on Wednesday each week. As the owner of Tranquility I host and teach the Tuesday study and I open and host for another group of women who meet on Wednesday. We have sponsored weekly care boxes of homemade cookies to military bases for several years as well as hosting college nights for local college students to enjoy some pampering from “momma” figures as well. Our ministry to hurting/abused women takes on many forms: evenings of pampering as well as counseling and afternoons of sitting among women just receiving prayer and encouragement. Washing the feet of the elderly is something that we have done and would love to do more of in the future. Each of these things are part of our vision and parts of what we have done over the past 7 years.

Our goal is to have each of these ministries happening on a regular basis. It costs about $2500 a month currently to keep the doors open and the supplies on hand. To be honest, this is a very small amount considering what we are able to do but is an overwhelming amount to me on a personal level.

Many have started asking how they can be a part of what is happening here. The truth is that locally we need more volunteers so that we can have regular crews that work together to provide the pampering care that we love to offer. We work quietly and allow our guests to relax and enjoy themselves and one another when they come in as groups or families. We silently pray over our guests and our ultimate goal is for them to walk out feeling that they are loved and have received hands on care that so many are craving.

Financially, we would so love to have the $2500 coming in on a regular basis so that our focus can be on serving as many as we possibly can. We currently have one church and two individuals who faithfully give $100 each month… this is such a blessing and encouragement and insures that $300 of the necessary $2500 is there. The rest? Month by month I have seen the Lord provide directly through the sale of our drinks, the Aqua Massage, individual gifts or He has given me a way to personally take care of it. Yes, it is my passion and it is ultimately my responsibility and I have done so because I believe in what God is doing in this little spot on Main Street in Brevard.

Oh, have you heard of our Aqua Massage? It is another part of the busines side of Tranquility. It is currently down for Maintenance and will be up and running again when the Lord provides the funds for that work. Until then, the door to the Aqua Massage room is closed and we are trusting Him to keep us moving with the things we are able to provide.

Thank you for asking and for reading! Please contact me if you have any interest in being a part of what we are doing – either as a volunteer or as a financial supporter. As we say, “Everyone needs a little bit of Tranquility.”
